The Drop 2025 - Ripple summaries

Climate and chips: compute as an environmental imperative

The Ripple zoomed in on where computing and climate needs meet up.

A crowd of investors and tech folks looked at how smarter, greener hardware could cut waste and make data centers run better. There was lots of chat about staying ahead in the race between hardware makers and software, making sure all the extra power doesn’t just get gobbled up by new apps.

Here’s what stood out:

• Progress means fresh hardware and smart investments go hand in hand.

• Chips and new materials matter but change comes slow.

• Most agreed the action just doesn’t happen fast, especially in Europe.

• There’s excitement for quantum and next-gen compute, but lots of unknowns.

• Teamwork, money, and tackling risk will shape what’s next.

The Ripple showed: chasing green compute isn’t easy. Everyone agreed progress needs many hands, bold ideas, and realistic bets on what works now and in the future.
